This is a color-enhanced version of the totality photo, where luminance information from the 4-layer HDR stack photo made with ISO 1250 exposures of the Full Moon taken hours before the eclipse was mixed with the ISO 6400 color photo of the Moon in total eclipse. The brightly detailed luminance data brings out the edge definition for the color photo, but adds no color; likewise the color information does not materially change the monochrome photo results. Taken together, a much clearer image of the eclipsed Moon emerges.

The Moon was just a surreal set of dark colors at the totality phase. At this point in the eclipse, the sky was quite dark, sufficiently so that lacking Moon light to cause sky glare, stars near the Moon were actually visible. This photo is an enhanced version of what was seen, in terms of brightness levels, but the unusual colors in mainly variance of hue are rendered.
