There are stars near the Moon, but you normally cannot see them due to the Moon's glare of reflected Sunlight. In shadow, as during an eclipse, you can see these stars ... if the exposure is changed to allow their light to be collected. The three smaller objects in this frame are star streaks 1 arc second in length.
