Need more photos in the album!!!

topic posted Sat, November 5, 2005 - 2:07 PM by  Rodney
Hey there! I'm Rodney and I am new to the tribe. I have posted a few new images to the album. And speaking of the album, how can a Photography group have less than 100 images in the album after more than a year???

I want to see this album explode with new images. So, how about an assignment? Lets see, well if every member posted 1 new photo, we would be at about 400.

ASSIGNMENT: Every member post 1 image taken with a shutter time of ONE MINUTE or longer. This image can be from stuff you have already shot, but must be newer than the last image you posted.

There you go...have fun with it, and I wanna see results! Comments?

Well, it looks like some folks have taken the time to post some great new images in our album. It does not matter if the images follow my suggested "assignment". I just wanted to motivate anyone I could to spark some creativity. Sometimes all we need is a suggestion.

How about suggestions for some other possible "assignments"? Any ideas?

If you don't mind a minor thread hijack -- I think it might be cool to go through the album now that we can comment on individual photos and take a few minutes to comment on photos.

For myself, I can say that I'm very new to shooting at night, so I'm interested in what people might say about the ones I've posted.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. 8)

I just posted my first photo here, taken with my new Christmas present (Rebel XT) from a hotel window in Vegas . I've been resistant to going digital and still intend to shoot film, but my-oh-my how fun it is to get instant feedback. I find I'm feeling much more playful and experimental behind the lens.

      Nice stuff!

Well that is part of what makes digital so addictive. You find yourself taking pictures that you, otherwise, would not have taken. If it sucks, DELETE! If it is cool...so be it!

I still shoot slide film, and although I admit that I;m not as free with it as my digital, I don't hold back when the situation is right. Other times I like to be really slow and deliberate with my compositions.

But if I'm ever in doubt as to whether or not to trip the shutter, I remember my favorite quote about photography, which, incidentally is not about photography at all, but about hockey. Wayne Gretzky said it:

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

Added some new shots to the album from my recent trip to yosemite. I had a few nights with a near full moon peaking out between rainstorms.

Okay, okay...I'm a terrible person and I dress funny. But I promise that after I get settled in Providence, I will be submitting a number of LONG exposure night images (2-15 minutes) to make up for my lurking and not posting.

    In total contrition,

    Dennis
