Does anyone have any tips on shooting shadows on a sunny day. For example, the shadow on the sidewalk as kids are walking by.

    Hi Steve,

If you want the shadows, set your exposure for the sky, which will then render the shadows dark. If you do not want the shadows to be readily apparent, set you exposure for the shadow area, which will render the shadows within the camera's range, but will tend to have the sky blow out. If you want both sky and and only little shadows, again expose for the sky, and use portable fill-flash. You can increase the amount of residual shadow with the fill-flash by backing it off, e.g. using negative flash compensation. The less flash light you use (e.g. larger negative compensation in stops, half-stops, or third-stops ... whatever your camera/flash system can do), the more the shadows will re-appear, while some of the fill light helps expose your subjects in shadow, as against the bright daylight sky.

    Hope this helps.

    Blessings and Light,
    Michael
